Admission Requirements

Academic Qualifications

For admission into any of our graduate programmes, candidates must fulfill the academic qualifications relating to the chosen programme, as laid out below.

Candidates who are in the final year of their undergraduate law studies may send in their applications if they are able to fulfill the academic pre-requisites and join us in good time for the new academic year in August or, in cases where students are required to attend special courses before term starts, in July. We can make a provisional offer of admission that is subject to the candidate obtaining the requisite qualifications. However, as immigration formalities may cause a delay for foreign students, we recommend a period of at least two months between obtaining the requisite academic qualifications, and starting the graduate programme at NUS.

English Proficiency

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (
TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required for all foreign applicants except those from English-medium institutions in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.

For Research Programmes, a minimum paper-based TOEFL score of 600 (CBT: 250; iBT: 100) or IELTS score of 6.5 is generally required. For Coursework Programmes, the minimum requirements are: paper-based TOEFL score of 580 (CBT: 237; iBT: 92) or IELTS score of 6.0.

Applicants should schedule a test date early enough to ensure that the scores reach our Graduate Division Office on or before the application deadline.

The TOEFL/IELTS scores are valid for 2 years after the test and should be valid at the beginning of the application period for the degree programme (s) applied for. Only original TOEFL/IELTS score sheets will be accepted.

The examining authorities for these two tests are:
